Let’s take a closer look.

What Is Vinyl Print?

Vinyl printing, also called heat-transfer vinyl, uses coloured vinyl material that is cut into your chosen shapes, letters or design elements. The design is then carefully pressed onto the garment using heat.

It is a fantastic choice when you want a design that is bold, clean and instantly readable.

Vinyl Print: Bold Graphics. Sharp Finish.

Vinyl works particularly well for:

  • Names and numbers
  • Short slogans and messages
  • Simple logos
  • Team shirts and group outfits
  • Hen party and birthday t-shirts
  • High-contrast designs
  • Metallic, glitter, neon or textured effects

Want a simple phrase printed clearly across a t-shirt? Vinyl is often the fastest and most affordable option.

Our Basic Personalised Vinyl Printing service starts from £9. Just provide the words and we will create a crisp, high-quality finish with zero fuss.

For more creative control, our Bespoke Vinyl Print service allows you to choose your text, font, sizing and placement.

Simple Text. Zero Fuss. Perfect Finish.

Why Choose Vinyl for Your Custom T-Shirt?

Vinyl gives your design a strong visual presence. The print sits slightly raised on the fabric, creating a tactile finish that you can see and feel.

That texture is part of the appeal. It can make a simple design feel more distinctive, especially when you choose a special-effect vinyl such as glitter, metallic or reflective material.

Vinyl is also excellent for designs that need to stand out from a distance. Names, numbers and slogans stay crisp and easy to read, making it a popular option for parties, sportswear and promotional clothing.

There are a few limitations. Vinyl is not usually the best choice for photographs, subtle shading or highly detailed full-colour artwork. Intricate designs may also need to be simplified so they can be cut and applied neatly.

If your design is bold and focused, vinyl could be the perfect fit.

What Is DTF Printing?

DTF stands for Direct-to-Film. You may also see this written as DFT on parts of our website : it refers to the same Direct-to-Film printing service.

With DTF, your artwork is printed onto a special film using high-quality inks. The print is then transferred onto the garment using heat and adhesive powder.

The result is a vibrant, high-resolution print that can capture colour, shading, small details and complex artwork beautifully.

DTF Prints: Full Colour. Fine Detail. Made to Last.

DTF is ideal for:

  • Detailed illustrations
  • Full-colour logos
  • Photographic artwork
  • Retro and distressed graphics
  • Character designs
  • Colourful gifts
  • Event and brand merchandise
  • Artwork with gradients, shading or multiple colours

If you have a creative idea that would be difficult to cut from vinyl, DTF gives you far more freedom.

Our Direct-to-Film printing service can bring complex designs to life on a wide range of garments and colours. Selected DFT prints start from £7 per item, giving you an accessible way to create something eye-catching and personal.

Why Choose DTF for Direct-to-Film Custom Shirts?

The biggest advantage of DTF is its design flexibility. You are not limited to a few solid colours or simple shapes.

Your artwork can include:

  • Multiple colours
  • Fine lines
  • Tiny details
  • Smooth colour transitions
  • Textured illustrations
  • Vintage-style weathering
  • Bold screen-print-inspired artwork

DTF prints are also known for being vibrant, flexible and durable when applied and cared for correctly. The finish is generally softer than a thick vinyl design, which can make it comfortable for everyday wear.

That makes DTF a strong choice for custom handmade t-shirts you want to wear again and again : whether you are creating a one-off gift, a statement piece or a small collection for an event.

Big Artwork. Bright Colour. No Need to Play Small.

Vinyl vs DTF: Which One Lasts Longer?

Both techniques can produce durable custom apparel. The final result depends on the quality of the materials, correct application and how the garment is washed and cared for.

In general, DTF is often the better choice for detailed designs that need flexibility and resistance to cracking or peeling. Its print layer can move more comfortably with the fabric.

Vinyl can also last well, particularly when used for simple, single-colour designs and applied correctly. However, thicker or multi-layered vinyl designs may be more likely to show edge lifting or cracking over time if they are exposed to harsh washing, high heat or repeated stretching.

To help your print last:

  1. Wash the garment inside out.
  2. Use a gentle wash cycle.
  3. Avoid bleach and harsh chemicals.
  4. Do not tumble dry on high heat.
  5. Iron inside out and never directly over the print.

A little care goes a long way. Treat your custom t-shirt well and you can enjoy the design for much longer.

Which Printing Method Is Best for Your Design?

Choose Vinyl If You Want:

A bold, simple design with a strong, raised finish.

Vinyl is ideal for a name, number, slogan or clean logo. It is also the best choice when you want a special effect such as glitter, metallic shine, neon colour or a textured finish.

Try vinyl for:

  • A group of matching hen party t-shirts
  • Birthday or celebration outfits
  • Sports team names and numbers
  • A simple business logo
  • A funny slogan
  • Personalised gifts with a clear message

Choose DTF If You Want:

Full-colour detail, creative freedom and a softer printed finish.

DTF is the better option for artwork that contains lots of colours, small details, gradients or photographic elements.

Try DTF for:

  • A colourful birthday gift
  • A detailed pet portrait
  • Event or festival merchandise
  • A retro graphic t-shirt
  • A custom illustration
  • A detailed small-business logo
  • A one-off design based on your own artwork

We love bringing unusual ideas to life. Your concept might begin as a sketch, a message, a photograph, an inside joke or a spark of inspiration. We can help turn that starting point into something distinctive, wearable and full of personality.
